Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - A late impressionist painter, Schramm-Zittau specialized in painting towns and animals, his preferred motifs including waterfowl and horses as well as Munich genre scenes. He was appointed professor for animal and landscape painting at the Dresden Academy in 1934. - Traces of an angular fold; a few tiny ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
