Coppée, François

"L'Omnibus". Autograph manuscript signed.
Autograph ist nicht mehr verfügbar

An interesting essay on the Paris omnibus. A strike, which had stopped temporarily all omnibus service, gave Coppée his inspiration for this article in which he recalls the days of his youth and early manhood when it was his habit to ride about Paris in the old fashioned horse-drawn vehicles, observing carefully the life of the city. On these rides he found much of the material for the stories of the common people which would make his name famous and gain him a seat in the Académie française. - Small tears along edges, some affecting text with no major loss; originally cut into alphabetically labeled strips and remounted, posssibly in order to delete parts of it before printing. With numerous corrections and deletions.
