Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - Inspired by his trips to Italy, Greece, Turkey and Tunisia, Bredt applied himself to Orientalism, painting harem scenes and odalisques as well as landscapes, and co-founded the Munich Secession in 1892. - Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
