Extensive, substantial diary, in French, written by the young Countess Zichy who shuttled between her paternal castle Karlsburg (Oroszvár or Rusovsky kastiel, Slovakia) and Vienna. Henriette Countess Zichy-Ferraris was one of three daughters of Lieutenant field marshal Francis Count Zichy-Ferraris and his wife Maria Wilhelmine, née Countess Ferraris, the daughter of Field Marshal Joseph Count Ferraris. In 1831 Henriette married Prince Innocente Odescalchi, while her sister married the State Chancellor Metternich that same year. Apart from her social obligations he was best known as chair of the "Society of aristocratic ladies for the advancement of all things good and useful", formed in 1812 at the instigation of Ignaz von Sonnleithner and his brother, the Court Theatre Secretary Joseph Sonnleithner. - The addenda include 3 autograph letters by Metternich (a total of 3½ pp. on 4 ff., 8vo), several contemporary newspaper clippings, death notices for Caroline Countess Wolkenstein and Joseph Carl Count Dietrichstein, guest lists, various notes, etc. Also includes a contemporary French manuscript by an unidentified writer (68 and 37 [but: 38] numbered pp,, 4to, bound in later cloth, stained and rubbed) containing literary writing (some copied, other parts apparently original).
