Rudolf Steiner

Austrian philosopher, 1861-1925

"Rudolf Joseph Lorenz Steiner was an Austrian philosopher, social reformer, architect, esotericist, and claimed clairvoyant. Steiner gained initial recognition at the end of the nineteenth century as a literary critic and published philosophical works including ""The Philosophy of Freedom"". At the beginning of the twentieth century he founded an esoteric spiritual movement, anthroposophy, with roots in German idealist philosophy and theosophy; other influences include Goethean science and Rosicrucianism. Steiner worked to establish various practical endeavors, including Waldorf education, biodynamic agriculture, and anthroposophical medicine."

To Maximilian Harden, sending corrections of an article by Ernst Horneffer about the Nietzsche Archive in Weimar. - The Nietzsche Archive had seen its first serious crisis in the winter of 1896/97 when Elisabeth Foerster-Nietzsche wanted to win over Rudolf Steiner as publisher and dismiss Fritz Koegel. The subsequent negotiations with Steiner failed, however, as he expressed sharp criticism of Foerster-Nietzsche, which culminated in the assertion that Mrs. Foerster-Nietzsche was completely unqualified to judge "in all matters concerning the teachings of her brother". - Slight damage to edges, partly repaired; very rare.
