Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - Best known for his illustrations of popular works including the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen, poems by Nikolaus Lenau and Gustav Meyrink's novel "Der Golem", Steiner-Prag was the artistic director of the Propyläen publishing house in Berlin, directing the section of modern book art at the 1914 "Internationale Ausstellung für Buchkunst und Grafik" ("Bugra") in Leipzig. He founded the artists' school "Officina Pragensis" in Prague in 1933.
