To a reporter, about a future meeting and sending notes concerning a bill proposed by Charles Buller (1806-48), MP for Liskeard: "I shall have great pleasure in waiting upon you next Saturday. I transcribe on the opposite page the precise terms of the motion on which you expressed your interest [...]". The opposite page reads: "Lord Mahon. May 11. On going into Com[mittee] on Mr. C. Buller's Bill, to move: 'That the objects of justice consistency & despatch in the decision of Election Petitions would be best attained by a tribunal not consisting of Members of Parliament, provided that tribunal can be effectually secured both in its appointment & its functions against the undue or preponderating influence of any political party [...]".
