Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Ihrem Wunsche folgend begrüsse ich Sie als [...]". - Receiving larger commissions for monuments since the 1880s, Seger spent two years working in the studio of Auguste Rodin in Paris in 1893 and 1894 before opening his own studio in Berlin. He became a popular Art Nouveau sculptor around 1900 and was particularly famous for his female nudes. - Traces of a postmark; traces of 2 horizontal folds near upper margin; a few small creases near right corners. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
