Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Ihrem Wunsche entsprechend, übersende ich Ihnen hiemit die Karte [...]". - Studying at the Munich Academy from 1868, Schmitzberger advanced to a popular painter of hunting motifs, animals and landscapes, published many of his works in the magazine "Gartenlaube", and decorated the ceiling of a salon in Herrenchiemsee Palace with animal themes. - Some tiny ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
