To Count d'Argenson (Minister, Secretary of State). A gracious letter of compliments regarding Louis XV. "Sir, one cannot be more indebted to you than I am, nor more touched by the King's kindness. I beseech you to kindly add to what I owe you, the service of presenting my most sincere and respectful gratitude to him. If I had the honor of being sufficiently known, the most profound joy I feel for all the personal honor and glory he acquires in the eyes of all of Europe (...)". He owes too much to the minister to violate the secret and assures him of his friendship. At the top, Argenson noted, "I have reported it to the King."
