Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - A founding member of the Munich Secession in 1898, Olde created landscapes and genre paintings as well as portraits inspired by his trips to Denmark, Schleswig and Holstein, and was the director of the Weimar Kunstschule from 1902 to 1910, where he effected the admission of female students. - Postmark on verso slightly showing through; a few tiny ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
