'Die Natur ist die Lehrmeisterin der Kunst' [...]". - Receiving his first training from his father, the painter Carl Wilhelm Friedrich Oesterley (1805-91), Oesterley junior continued his studies at the Hannover Polytechnicum as well as the Düsseldorf Academy, and specialized in naturalist and impressionist landscape painting inspired by his study trips to Norway, as well as Lübeck architecture.
