To the musician Frederick Allan Wilshire (1868-1944), describing his life as quite quiet: He tries to travel to London as little as necessary, and by this politely refusing an invitation. Already two other social obligations would draw on him the up-coming days: "It is pleasant to be reminded of those old festival days before the war. Life was almost all fun in those days! If I lived in town it would have been a pleasure to me to lunch with You: but I live, as You see, some 20 miles out, and I am virtually never in London except of a concert at night, when I go straight to the place of execution & straight back again [...] I am glad to see this hallmark spirit in Bristol: I suppose it's because the town is the home of that glorious product, Bristol Cream [...]".
