In a letter dated 16 December, Neveux congratulates a fellow writer on his election and assures him that he merited this choice and that "it will not produce a single jealous person among the irritable tribe of novelists". As Neveux addresses the recipient as his "confrère", he might have written to a new member of the Académie Goncourt where Neveux held the second seat since 1924. He also announces his support for the writer Édouard Estaunié in an undisclosed affair: "Trouvez-ici je vous prie, l'expression de mes plus chaleureuses félicitations.
Nul plus que moi n'applaudit à une choix si justement méritée et qui ne fera pas un jaloux dans l'irritable tribu des romanciers. Maintenant calmez vos scrupules, vous n'avez pris la place de personne. Et je vous promets de faire en Janvier tout l'impossible pour votre ami M. Estaunié, dont j'admire aussi vivement que vous le probe et solide talent [...]". - In the second letter, Neveux expresses his admiration for the writer Louis Lumet, requesting that the recipient arrange a meeting for which Lumet had asked. Neveux mentions that he has reached an agreement with the socialist politician Fernand Chapsal (1862-1939) and begs the recipient to obtain two tickets for Wagner's "Valkyrie" for him and his wife: "Vous savez quelle profonde sympathie artistique j'ai pour votre ami Louis Lumet. Dites-lui que je serai ravi de m'entretenir avec lui Mardi prochain vers dix heures et demie - ou le même jour a son gré autour de quatre heures - Je me suis mis d'accord avec Chapsal et Lundi prochain je comte aller remercier Monsieur le Ministre. Voulez-vous prier Farin d'essayer de m'obtenir deux fauteuils [...] pour la Valkyre Lundi. Ma femme est desolée d'avoir manqué la reprise et en insistant vous m'obligeriez grandement. Ensemble of five letters concerning the "Academie Goncourt", mostly professional matters. - To a friend that he, Neveux, had noticed the addressee's cooperation with George Courteline, J.-H. Rosny, ps. of the writers Joseph and Séraphin Boex, and Lucien Descaves, asking for a total sum of three auctions, and about a letter to the Musée Rodin: "Je suis ravi de vous avoir marqué aux chèques de Courteline, j'ai su depuis que vous étiez avec notre Rosny et Descaves tandi que moi j'accompagnais Ponchon [i.
e. the writer Raoul Ponchon], lequel avec ses vieilles jambes a tenu à grimper à pied au Père Lachaise, le pauvre! [...]". - To the not named novelist Léon Hennique with thanks for the first edition of "Minnie Brandon" (1899) published before in the "Revue de Paris": "Je vais donc relire en volume cette Minnie Brandon qui m'enchanta cet été dans la 'Revue de Paris' [...]". - The letter of December 21st, confidentially to a friend whom he, Neveux, forwards a request of Mme Alphonse Daudet for an intervention in favour of Gustave Toudouze to be attributed the cross of the Legion of Honour, Goncourt and Daudet had already communicated their best references to a M. Leygues: "Madame Alphonse Daudet, ce ci très entre nous, insiste auprès de moi pour vous demander votre intervention réelle ou écrite en favour de la croix de Gustave Toudouze [...]". - Counting on the support of political friends, Louis Barthou and Léon Bérard, for an intervention concerning the attribution of the Croix de Commandeur (Legion of Honour) for the writer Léon Hennique: "Je déjeune après demain avec Louis Barthou, je lui parlerai et je suis par avance certain qu'il interviendra de la façon la plus pressante [...]". - To a friend about a joint letter to declare solidarity with the defamed director and secretary Lucien Descaves; Jean Ajalbert, Raoul Ponchon, J. H. Rosny have signed, copies are sent to Léon Daudet, Gaston Chérau, and Descaves, and that he, Neveux, had spent his autumn holidays in Toulouse: "Au Goncourt d'hier, où j'ai été désolé de ne pas vous retrouver, on a décidé d'adresser aux avocats de notre admirable J. H.
