Desperate letter to an unnamed friend, informing him about the probably fatal pneumonia of Marion's daughter Marie: "Depuis Dimanche je suis dans des angoisses qui me conduisent, hélas ! à un désespoir trop légitime. Ma petite Marie dimanche a été prise par le frisson, la pneumonie inférieure aujourd'hui est arrivée au degré final [...] Je n'ai plus d'espoir, cher ami, et à mon malheur si grand, qui ne peut tarder à s'accomplir j'ai voulu vous associer, vous que cette chère aimait et qui toujours avez été bon pour elle". - With a deep tear to a horizontal fold (not affecting the text) and an old collector's note "Marion" in ink (verso).
