To Frances Fleetwood Wilson (1850-1919), the only daughter and heiress of the Northamptonshire industrialist Fleetwood Pellew Wilson, responding to an invitation and eager to show her his latest works: "Many thanks for your very kind invitation to dine on the 3rd. I am so sorry I can't come. I hope your friends like your picture in the R[oyal] A[cademy]. I am painting three more portraits the same size as yours. You must come to see them before they go away [...]". - The portrait of Frances Wilson, who some years later would marry Prince Alexei Dolgorouki, a Russian Prince and Chamberlain to the Tsar, was noted among the best works in the Royal Academy exhibition of 1885.
