Extensive correspondence with the Upper Austrian historian and German scholar Max Bauböck (1897-1971), long the chairman of the "Innviertler Künstlergilde" founded in 1923. Kubin held the membership of this Guild of Artist from the very beginning. Due to F. X. Hofer, the letters passing from Alfred Kubin to Max Bauböck and vice-versa testify to the practicality of their relationship and show Kubin's steady connection with the Innviertler gallery during the years of 1934 until the end of 1954. They point to the crucial role Max Bauböck played in the "Innviertler Künstlergilde" and concerning the Innviertler artistic scene (F. X. Hofer: "Ein jeder er selbst". In: see below, p. 63). - In his letter (no place, 4. II. 1944) Kubin mentions the rareness of his lithographs, which disappeared in their majority from sale already many years ago. He lists several of these, as by chance he has kept for instance a small edition of 2-3 prints and of which he could make further prints upon request ("Rübezahl", "Gespräch über den Tod/Talk about the Death", "Die Weiber von Weinsberg" etc.). Kubin begs not to exhibit no. 41, because the woman shown there is a private acquaintance of his and still alive: "Hier gebe ich Einiges davon an wo ich durch Zufall noch eine - z. He hopes that the works will be well arranged and that the exhibited lithographs will differ from those of former exhibitions in Ried. Furthermore he notes his mental and physical powers to be quite reduced, a stressing situation he calls war of nerves ("Nervenkrieg") concerning the suspense of three of his illustrated works due to the bad luck in Leipzig, and the destruction of five original works by a fire in Berlin. - Kubin's letters as well as the (not present) answering letters of Bauböck are edited in: "Alfred Kubin - Max Bauböck. Ein Briefwechsel. Innviertler Künstlergilde, Ried i. I., 1997" (specimen copy included).
