Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - Awarded the Academy's "Staatspreis" for his sculpture group for the Berlin "Siegesallee" project in 1900, Kraus spent five years studying in Rome, his style shifting from Historicism towards Neoclassicism, and joined the Berlin Secession upon his return in 1906. - Faint traces of a postmark. Part of the signature slightly smeared. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
