Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - A leading German figure sculptor of his generation and a regular participant at the "Große Deutsche Kunstausstellung" from 1937 to 1944, Kolbe worked in a vigorous, modern, simplified classical style, dancers and nudes in motion constituting his preferred motifs. He first achieved success in 1912 with his masterpiece "Die Tänzerin". - A few small ink spots, smeared in one place; 2 faint creases. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
