Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - One of the most prominent figures of the German "Buchkunst" movement, Kleukens was appointed artistic director of the Ernst-Ludwig-Presse in Darmstadt in 1907 and founded his own printing press, the Ratio-Presse, after the First World War. The valuable limited edition books they produced are still sought after today. - Faint traces of a postmark. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
