Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - A renowned history and genre painter associated with the Düsseldorf School, Kampf preferred such motifs as Frederick the Great and the Napoleonic Wars, while as a portraitist he focused on painting children. - With a pen-and-ink drawing of a male face in profile. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
