August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben
German poet, 1798-1874
"August Heinrich Hoffmann, calling himself 'von Fallersleben', after his hometown, was a German poet. He is best known for writing ""Das Lied der Deutschen"", set to a 1797 tune by Joseph Haydn, its third stanza now being the national anthem of Germany, and a number of popular children's songs, considered part of the Young Germany movement. Many of his children's songs have remained popular until today and are known by nearly every German child, such as ""Alle Vögel sind schon da"", ""Ein Männlein steht im Walde"", ""Summ, summ, summ"", ""Kuckuck, Kuckuck, ruft’s aus dem Wald"", and the Christmas song ""Morgen kommt der Weihnachtsmann""."
