To the poet and playwright Jane Catulle-Mendès (1867-1955), apologizing for his belated response due to a bout of the flu and declining an invitation that conflicted with a planned trip to the countryside: "Excusez-moi de vous répondre en retard : sous l'influence de la grippe (ou des moyens pour y remédier, pires qu'elle), je viens de passer deux jours dans l'amnésie et totale inintelligence. Je vous prie d'agréer tous mes remerciements et tous mes regrets ; je dois aller, la semaine prochaine, dans le Loiret. Veuillez agréer aussi, chère Madame et amie [...]". - Paul Hervieu died at age 58 in his Paris apartment on 25 October 1915. - Slightly creased and some browning.
