Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - Inspired by study trips through Europe as well as Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Sumatra, Hayek specialized in landscape paintings and operated a private painting school in Dachau until 1915, while also working as a war painter during the First World War. - A few small ink spots; postmark on verso showing through. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
