Beautiful and intimate letter to his friend Galanis, written during his convalescence in the Touraine countryside. Gris expresses joy at his recovery and at being able to work again after a long illness: “My dear Galanis, Your letter gave me great pleasure, and I hope you’ve had a good holiday while working as well. I am feeling better. Since my arrival here, there has been a great difference in my health. The fever has gone, and I am beginning to return to painting. I like it here very much, and I regret that time passes so quickly, for soon the cold will drive me away...” He adds that he hopes not to return to Paris before mid-October, and closes affectionately: “Best wishes from Josette, and a warm handshake from Juan Gris.” - A touching letter, full of quiet optimism, written at a turning point in the artist’s fragile health and creative renewal.

Gris’s stay at Beaulieu-lès-Loches, where his wife Josette Herpin was born, marked one of the rare moments of serenity in his later years..
