Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - A celebrated painter of the Belle Époque, Gandara is best known for his portraits of the Paris elite as well as for his depictions of Parisian bridges, streets and parks, mainly in oil and pastel paint. Major newspapers and magazines routinely reproduced his portraits, several of which made the front page of publications like the fashionable "Le Figaro" magazine. - Rather prominent traces of postage stamps. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
