Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - Born into a prominent family of German sculptors, Cauer's work was characterized by his collaboration with the sculptor Reinhold Begas in Berlin, where he created several statues for the Berlin Siegesallee and contributed to the National Kaiser Wilhelm Monument. - Traces of a postmark; a few small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
