To the author of an unidentified treatise on military education entitled "Trésor fécond de principes, de vues, de sentimens incontestables", praising it in the highest terms and commenting on the text: "Je Vous restitue Monsieur, avec regrét, n'ayant put m'en pouvoir ici, et reconnaissance Votre incomparable Ouvrage [...], ou tout ce qui était à dire est exposé avec une sagacité, une propriété de termes, une facilité qui le met à la portée d'un chacun et électrise en même tems la raison et le cœur de quiconque le lit [...]".

- Luigi Giuseppe Arbario di Gattinara originally envisaged an army career, having reached the rank of a captain of the infantry when he was convinced by the Sardinian minister of external affairs to accept a diplomatic mission to Naples in 1782. In 1786 he was named ambassador to the Imperial court in Vienna, where he served until 1794. After his return to Turin, the Marquess served as councillor to the Sardinian King and took public office in the Napoleonic Italian Republic in 1802. He assisted in the coronation of Napoleon as King of Italy in 1805, whose state council he joined. In 1809 Napoleon named Arbario di Gattinara senator of the Kingdom of Italy. During the restoration, the Marquess withdrew to private life, dedicating his time to political and economical studies. - On stationery with engraved letterhead "Le Senteur Comte de Breme, Grand Dignitaire de l'Ordre de la Couronne de Fer".
