Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Ihrem Wunsche gemäß sende ich Ihnen meine Unterschrift. Bitte lassen Sie mir [!] doch wissen, wie Sie zu meiner Adresse gekommen sind [...]". - Having his studies interrupted by the Franco-Prussian War, Zschimmer first succeeded as an artist in 1872 when he received an award for his painting "Im Hochwalde". He was a drawing teacher in Weimar from 1875 and moved to Bad Schmiedeberg in 1891, where over the following years he created countless paintings of the Düben Heath.
