Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - A prolific artist between 1892 and 1929, Stöwer created approximately 900 black-and-white and 335 colour illustrations for 57 books, as well as oil paintings, posters, postcards, trading-cards, labels, brochures and calendars. His representation of the sinking of the RMS Titanic, published in the magazine "Die Gartenlaube", earned him wide recognition. - Postmark on verso slightly showing through; some small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
