Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - After studying in Stuttgart and making a study tour of Italy in 1881, Speyer accompanied the African explorer Gustav Nachtigal (1834-85) to Tunis, where he applied himself to horse painting. He settled in Munich in 1883 and was a founding member of the Munich Secession. - Traces of a postmark; some ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
