Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "I anledning af deres ordre brevkart af 6te dennes sender jeg dem hermed min onbidige hilsen [...]". - A co-founder of the artists' association "Den Frie Udstilling" in 1891, Skovgaard is best known for his frescoes in Viborg Cathedral, carried out from 1901 to 1913, which show the principal scenes from the Old and New Testaments and are considered one of Denmark's major works of art. - Traces of postal stamps; a few small creases. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
