Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "'Kalt Blut vorm Feind.' [...]". - A founding member of the "Freie Vereinigung Darmstädter Künstler", Selzam mainly applied himself to genre and landscape painting and was particularly inspired by the scenery of Ammersee in Bavaria, where he had a villa with an atelier built in 1890. - Smudged pencil note near upper margin; a few small creases near corners. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
