Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Für eine Autographensammlung [...]". - Inspired by the Dutch masters of the 17th and 18th centuries, Seiler specialized in genre painting, was a member of the Berlin Academy from 1895, and received an honorary award at the Paris Salon des Artistes Indépendants in 1903. - Traces of postmarks. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
