Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Erraten Sie den Charakter aus der Schrift!! [...]". - A popular portraitist and illustrator, Rössner was a member of the Munich Secession from 1911 and the Berlin Secession from 1920, taught painting in Berlin, and was a visiting professor in Santiago de Chile from 1935 to 1939. - Small tear in lower margin; a few small creases and ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
