In 1910 Lyautey left Algeria for France and briefly commanded a corps at Rennes. He returned to North Africa as early as 1912 to participate in the relief of Fez, then under siege by insurgent Moroccans. Until his retirement in 1925, Lyautey served as Resident-General of French Morocco. - Inès de Bourgoing established several Red Cross nursing facilities in Morocco during her husband's term. After his death in 1934, de Bourgoing divided her time between France and Morocco, also supporting Moroccans in France and, during WWII, Moroccan troops serving in Europe.
