Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "I have much pleasure in sending my signature [...]". - One of the most important representatives of the Glasgow Boys, Lavery is best known for his portraits and landscape paintings. He frequently travelled the Mediterranean and North Africa and was commissioned by the city of Glasgow with capturing on canvas the visit of Queen Victoria to the International Exhibition in 1888. - Some small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
