A short letter to a friend with an urgent request to send him 24 copies of his book "La Cité de la Joie" in softcover format, published two years prior. Lapierre requires additional copies to further promote his work: "Je continue mon offensive médiathique sans relâche". - Dominique Lapierre was a French bestseller author who is also known for his collaborations with fellow author Larry Collins, his role in humanitarian projects in India, and his adventurous life. "La Cité de la Joie" is his best-known book about the Pilkhana slum in Kolkata; it received the Christopher Award for "affirming the highest values of the human spirit" in 1986 and was adapted as a film of the same title in 1992.

Lapierre established the "City of Joy" foundation that uses half of the royalties from the sales of the book to support humanitarian projects in Kolkata..
