Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Ihrem Wunsche gemäß will ich Ihnen gerne meine Unterschrift geben [...]". - A freelance artist in Berlin from 1885, Kruse created figurines, marble busts, bronze sculptures and medals. His oeuvre included several monuments to Bismarck as well as a huge bronze eagle for the German luxury steamer "Imperator". - Tiny ink stains and a small crease near left margin. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
