To an unidentified recipient. Guyot writes that he shares the addressee's opinion on a certain incident which was helpful in several ways: firstly, to strike a balance with Germany; secondly, to remove the argument from the monarchist parties that the Republic is being ostracized by the other governments. Guyot also informs the addressee that he, Guyot, is no longer the political publisher of "le Siècle", and advises him to refer to M. Paul Desachy concerning the addressee's proposition: "je suis tout à fait de votre avis en ce qui concerne la [...] nous a cependant rendu deux services: un service [...], en donnant un contrepoid à l'allemagne; un service [...], en enlevant aux partis monarchiques, l'argument que la République était au ban des autres gouvernements.
C'était de vous donner des illusions. [...] Nous devons être très heureux que ce ne soient pas en Europe qu'elles se produisent. Je ne suis plus directeur politique du siècle, et je me confirme dans les deux actuels économiques que je fais par semaine. Ce n'est donc pas à moi qu'il faut faire votre proposition. Adressez-la directement à M. Paul Desachy, rèdactuer en chef du siècle [...]". - From 1892 until 1903 Guyot was the political publisher of the daily newspaper "Le Siècle".
