"Guo Moruo war 1921 mit dem Gedichtband ""Göttinnen"" der Durchbruch als Lyriker gelungen. Als marxistischer Funktionär wurde er auch politisch aktiv und mitorganisierte 1937 bei Ausbruch des Krieges mit Japan als Leiter der Propagandaabteilung die Abwehr des japanischen Angriffs. 1947 floh er infolge der Streitigkeiten zwischen Kommunisten und der Regierung nach Hongkong, wurde dann aber bei Gründung der Volksrepublik China 1949 zum stellvertretenden Ministerpräsidenten und Vorsitzenden des Kultur- und Erziehungsrates ernannt. Bis zu seinem Tod 1978 war er auch der erste Präsident der Chinesischen Akademie der Wissenschaften und der University of Science & Technology of China (USTC)."
