Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Alexander Fuks sendet Ihrem Wunsch entsprechend seine Unterschrift". - Born in Russia, Fuks studied in Munich from 1883 to 1887, and acquired a reputation as a skilled portraitist of the Bavarian nobility and middle class, his work including portraits of Prince Regent Luitpold and King Ludwig III. - Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
