Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - Teaching at the Munich Kunstgewerbeschule from 1910 onwards, Engels was a member of the Deutsche Werkbund from 1912, his oeuvre including illustrations for the journal "Die Jugend" as well as woodcuts for the 1912 festschrift of the Krupp company. His estate comprised more than 200 paintings. - Small creases near corners. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
