To a friend, possibly the French actor and director Charles Burguet (1872-1957), offering his condolences and mentioning that he had to read the obituary ten times over before being able to believe the news, regretting his being unable to visit, as he needs to be with his little daughter at the moment: "Je suis alterré devant ce faire-part... Je l'ai relu dix fois, n'y pouvant pas croire. Vous pensez si je suis avec vous dans votre douleur ... mais je vous avoue que, comme ma penne, je me sens ni capable de venir vous exprimer la tristesse que j'éprouve, vous comprenez pourquoi, et comment, lorsqu'on n'a qu'une petite fille, l'egoisme humain vous serre la poitrine, et vous force à penser à soi au moment du malheur d'autrui [...]".
