Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "'Trunken müssen wir alle sein' […]". - Best known for his impressionist landscapes filled with fantastical figures, Brandenburg became a member of the secessionist group "Vereinigung der XI" in 1897, joined the Berlin Secession the following year, and went on to teach at the "Studienatelier für Malerei und Plastik" in Berlin from 1908 to 1918. - Traces of a postmark; some small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
