Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau, the pen-and-ink drawing, titled "Arendsee in Mecklenburg", shows a rural road with a departing horse carriage and a barn. - Inspired by trips to Belgium, Holland and his native Estonia, Bochmann was an award-winning landscape and genre painter and the founder of the "Freie Vereinigung Düsseldorfer Künstler", one of the earliest secessionist movements, in 1891. - Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
