To a friend with news about travels and excessive work to be done for the memorial statue of the French officer Rouget de Lisle in Lons-le-Saunier and about difficulties to create in Colmar, with the promise to do all that is possible to bring a not more precisely stated wish about. With regards to a Madame whose name is erased twice: "Nous avons eu grand plaisir en recevant de vos bonnes nouvelles [...] - In October of the same year, Levi P. Morton, then American Ambassador to France, should rivet together the first copper plate to the big toe of the Statue of Liberty, Bartholdi's most famous design which he was able to complete with the expertise of Gustav Eiffel, and Eiffel's chief structural engineer Maurice Koechlin. - With embossed monogram and markings in pencil, slightly brownstaining.
