Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - Influenced by Impressionism, Bantzer was a member of the Willingshaus artists' colony (the Schwalm peasantry inspiring many of his works) and served as president of the Kassel Academy between 1918 and 1923. - Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
