To his only female student Éva Gonzalès, informing her that the art dealer Templaër is willing to exhibit a painting of hers, which she should finish "fast and well" and for which she should ask 1500 to 2000 francs: "Mademoiselle, Templaer exposera votre tableau quand vous voudrez. Dépêchez-vous de le terminer vite et bien et joignez-y une petite notice et le prix - demandez 2000 frs, laissé à 1500". - Éva Gonzalès (1847-83), the daughter of the novelist Emmanuel Gonzalès, was a student of Charles Chaplin and Gustave Brion before being introduced to Édouard Manet, who accepted her as his student and supported her career.
