Gr.-4°. – An den Genetiker und Molekularbiologen Hans Ferdinand Linskens (1921–2007) zur Übersendung eines (hier nicht beiliegenden) Aufsatzes von T. E. Miller und S. M. Reader für die Zeitschrift „Theoretical and Applied Genetics“ (TAG), für die Linskens bis kurz zuvor als Chefredakteur tätig gewesen war: „The paper consists fo a collation of the characteristics by which the homoeology of chromosomes my be identified in wheat and its relatives.
So far as I am aware this is the first time that this kind of rationalisation has been attempted and in my view the availability of the criteria of homoeology in this way will be very useful to all wheat cytogeneticists who must constitute a reasonable proportion of the readers of TAG [...]“. – „Riley had foreseen the importance of molecular biology and, by skilful lobbying, obtained significant funds to start the first plant molecular biology initiative in the UK“ (Mike Gale: Nachruf auf Sir Ralph Riley in The Independent v. 10.
